MW2 vs. BC2 Map packs - Aggressive marketing tactic
This was just announced - BC2 will have a map pack released on the same day as MW2
IMO, this is pretty aggressive, they are trying to 1-UP the MW2 map pack release in multiple ways
MW2: Not free, and only released on 360 initially
BC2: Free and available for all systems
People claim that they just held them back and should have included the BC2 maps on the disk, but who's to say they just didnt finish them, or that they are going to rush some maps just to be aggressive. I guess the quality of the maps will show that.
Also, is it true the maps for MW2 are just ones from MW1? I'm assuming they are at least re-hashing them with some changes / balancing if thats the case.

Re: MW2 vs. BC2 Map packs - Aggressive marketing tactic
I saw another comment saying something like the maps for BC2 are just taken from other parts of the game then I re-read it. Looks like they are just made other maps playable in other modes (which will be the same thing for me as new maps since I've only played the RUSH modes).
Anyhow, not as big news imo, but still trying to trump the MW2 announcement.

Bah, as I was reading this, I went from "Yeeeah!" to "Awww!"
While it's cool that the BC2 maps will be free (they did something similar in BC1, making the Conquest mode free DLC), it would be nice if it was completely new. I can't complain, though. The maps play really different depending on the game type. I'm not buying any MW2 DLC (don't quote me, but my feelings stand firm at the moment). The game is currently broken.

haha, yeah I was a little let down reading that they werent completely new. MW is the spawn of counterstrike imo, albeit a more unbalanced counterstrike. Not to say it isnt fun for at least a little bit!

Wow, I believe this is what you call shooting yourself in the foot. If there was any doubt that I'd end up buying the MW2 map pack at some point, there certainly isn't now. In case you don't know, 1200 MS points is about $15. All map packs for the previous CoDs have been 800. Can't wait to see what the internet thinks about this one.

Wow, thats pricy! And these maps are from MW1 to my understanding right???
Edit: ahh, two of the five maps are from MW1, so pretty steep really

So far, all the comments I've seen about this have been very negative. Doesn't surprise me. $15 for 5 maps with an economic crisis going on? Right. But you know there's still enough fans of this game who will actually buy it, which makes me sad. MW1 was a masterpiece. MW2 is a joke. The campaign was too Hollywood and way too short, and the multiplayer is just plain broken. They don't support this game at all, which is evident by all the cheating going on. All they care about is making money. I can understand the money bit, but they're going about it all the wrong way. One thing I like about developers such as Bungie, Naughty Dog and Criterion Games is that they know how to support their games and care about what their fans want. Activision could care less.

Figures - I guess since they dont expect people to be able to mod the system, they dont really put time and resources into preventing hacks through it. What could be done to fix / stop this? I guess an OS patch?

No clue really. It's a heavily modified Windows OS (2000 I think?), and the console is basically a PC with some security checks that can be bypassed or something. The PS3 remains unaffected because its encryption has yet to be cracked. Also, isn't it impossible to install Linux on the PS3 slims? Or was that a firmware upgrade for all PS3s?

The PS3 was recently cracked by the same person who cracked the iphone, so its only a matter of time before we start seeing mods. The linux install option was only removed for the slims - not sure why really.
